The altered animation of Kevin McCallister was originally created by X / Twitter user @block_618 in late December 2023, followed by a spinoff of the 'Tomorrow Is X' Kevin meme by TikToker @mwuerete in December 2024 that combined it with the drum beat. The meme of Kevin shaking his head became notably popularized online throughout April 2025, leading into early May, especially on TikTok.

On May 14th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @arthdubois posted a video of himself making a beat using a set of drums. Specifically, he submerges a set of wind chimes in a drum filled with water to make a watery sound. The video gained over 3.4 million views in two years.

On December 9th, 2023, X^[8] / Twitter user @block_618 posted a meme with the caption, "Today is December 9th," including their creation of the distorted Kevin McCallister GIF. The post (unable to be embedded) received over 941,000 views, 26,000 likes and 130 replies in roughly a year and a half.

On December 9th, 2024, TikToker^[2] @mwuerete posted an edit of a "Tomorrow Is X" Kevin meme in which Kevin McCallister's head bops to the tune of Dubois' beat, garnering over 30,000 views in five months. This is the earliest known user to share the animation combined with the sound effect.

The meme garnered viral spread over the following months, seeing a notable increase in interest in April 2025. For example, on April 19th, 2025, TikToker^[3] @monkeyballsproductions posted a meme using the slang term "Kevin" and the "Gurt: Yo" format along with the video, garnering over 70,000 views in two weeks.

On April 20th, TikToker^[4] @muyguyfly posted a meme using the animation that garnered over 245,000 views in three weeks.
