Karlach is the name of an NPC and controllable character in the Dungeons and Dragons based game Baldur's Gate 3. The character came into mainstream prominence after the launch of Baldur's Gate 3, with many players seeking her out as a romance option within the game.

Origin

Karlach is one of the main characters found within the game, and can become a party member early in Act 1. She fits into the party in the role of a barbarian melee dps character. Due to her size, attitude, and appearance, Karlach has been seen as the most recent adaptation of the Dommy Mommy archetype, with many early memes about the game referencing her. On July 23rd, 2023, before the game had officially launched the Redditor u/TalonIsMyDDName^[1] uploaded a meme to the r/Baldur'sGate3 Subreddit talking about Karlach being hot (shown below).

Due to the game's customization options, players who roleplay as Short King characters such as Dwarves or Halflings create the power dynamic of the Excuse Me, He Asked For No Pickles meme, which was noticed and posted to the r/BaldursGate3 Subreddit by Redditor u/invaderark12^[2] on August 13th, 2023 (shown below).

On TikTok, Karlach is a very popular character due to her interactions within the game being turned into clips. On August 13th, 2023, the TikToker mrbigbentz_^[3] uploaded a TikTok about choosing Karlach over the the other commonly romanced character Shadowheart, stating that Karlach is a sweet Himbo of a woman, and earning over 19,000 likes in two weeks (shown below).
