Karaoke Without Lyrics, also known as No Lyrics Karaoke, is a trend on TikTok where one person attempts to sing a karaoke version of a song without looking at the lyrics, typically while someone else displays them on a screen recording the other person's attempt. The trend started on TikTok in late November 2022 and spread across the platform throughout December.

Origin

On November 30th, 2022, TikToker^[1] @maialsilva posted a video where she films a friend attempting to sing a karaoke version of "Hey There Delilah" without looking at the lyrics, singing many of the lyrics wrong (shown below). The video gained over 4.9 million views in two weeks. On December 5th, she posted a second video playing the game to TikTok,^[2] garnering over 700,000 views in a week.

Spread

The trend became increasingly popularized on TikTok over the following weeks. For example, on December 13th, 2022, TikToker^[3] @sallysallysally1 posted a video playing the game, garnering over 2.1 million views in a day (shown below).

On the same day, December 13th, TikToker^[4] @turtlewithhat posted a video playing the game, garnering over 809,000 views in a day (shown below).
