Kanye West Using Telepathy refers to a series of memes parodying an August 2024 news article about a Kentucky woman who claimed that rap artist Kanye West (aka Ye) "telegraphically" (presumably intending to say "telepathically") told her to steal a car. The story quickly inspired memes and jokes in which people blamed their misdeeds on Kanye West telepathically telling them to do things or commit crimes.

Origin

On August 30th, 2024, Eyewitness News^[1] reported on an arrest of a woman attempting to break into a car with a child in the backseat in Kentucky. The woman, 28-year-old Ricki Smith, allegedly told police officers that artist Kanye West "spoke to her telegraphically and told her to steal it" (snippet shown below).

Later on August 30th, X^[2] / Twitter account @Kurrco reported the story, changing "telegraphically" to "telepathically." The post (shown below) went viral on the platform, garnering over 33 million views, 7,600 reposts and 54,000 likes in five days.

The post by @Kurrco was followed by jokes and memes about Kanye West using telepathy, with some jokes connecting the news to the recent allegations that Kanye was addicted to nitrous gas.

For example, on August 30th, 2024, tweleb @upblissed posted a joke referencing Kanye's rumored nitrous usage that garnered over 13,000 reposts and 201,000 likes on X^[3] in five days (shown below).

Some users also posted memes in which they explained their suboptimal behavior with Kanye West telepathically telling them to do things.

For instance, on September 2nd, 2024, X^[4] user @DanManCarney wrote, "Kanye is telepathically telling me to have another beer," with the post (shown below) gaining over 1,000 reposts and 11,000 likes in two days.
