"Just Go to the Bathroom" Text refers to the meaning of the text message "just go to the bathroom" in the context of a relationship or courtship, in which case it is used to suggest the recipient goes to the bathroom to take nude photographs of themselves. Videos about receiving the text and being pressured into sending nudes were uploaded by TikTokers throughout the 2020s, often painting the text as manipulative and a sign that a partner is using you.
Origin
On July 14th, 2021, TikToker[1] @h0melessman posted a skit where she reenacts a situation with a past partner where they convince her to "just go to the bathroom" to take nudes despite telling him he can't because she's babysitting her brother, garnering over 1.3 million views in two years (shown below). This is one of the earliest examples of a viral video about the message, but it is unclear if it's the first.
Spread
Videos referencing the text message continued to go viral on TikTok throughout the 2020s, often, but not always, in a negative context. On July 9th, 2023, TikToker[2] @urmomwantsme_69_ posted a video referencing the message that gained over 1.6 million views in four months (shown below, left). On September 8th, TikToker[3] @gabmilanoo posted a more positive video about receiving the text, garnering over 1.6 million views in two months (shown below, right).
