Origin

On June 9th, 2025, Redditor /u/COKE-SLURPEE posted a selfie to the subreddit /r/beards,^[1] writing, "Starting over, learned not to trim front of my beard down otherwise it quickly turns into a neck beard." The selfie showed him bald with a mustache, staring into the camera in his bathroom. The post gathered over 220 upvotes and 40 comments in 20 days.

On July 3rd, Redditor /u/Slaypike reposted u/COKE-SLURPEE's post to /r/notinteresting,^[2] writing, "I had a job interview today." The post gathered over 24,000 upvotes and 1,300 comments in five days.

Other Redditors quickly began posting jokes using u/COKE-SLURPEE's selfie, with Redditor u/TheVeryMoistTowel riffing on the "John Interview" jokes on subreddit^[3] /r/notinteresting on July 3rd, 2025, posting a photo of a phone background with u/COKE-SLURPEE's selfie on it. The post gathered over 11,000 upvotes in five days.

On July 4th, Redditor u/Main-Dish-5989 posted an altered and seemingly AI-generated image of Redditor u/COKE-SLURPEE in a snowy setting to the /r/notinteresting^[4] subreddit, writing, "I got appointed as a penguin expert in Antarctica." The post gathered over 14,000 upvotes in four days.

Also on July 4th, Redditor u/COKE-SLURPEE made a post to /r/notinteresting,^[5] showing the before-and-after of him shaving his beard, writing, "After I shaved and before I shaved in 2nd picture. No job interview or any other of the hilarious titles I’ve seen." The post gathered over 6,000 upvotes in four days.
