John Fallout or John Fallout Scam refers to a fake DM from a Fallout character named "John Fallout" as part of the Fake Celebrity Scam Messages meme. Following the virality of the fake DM in April 2024, TikTokers started to create more lore about the character that allegedly appears in Fallout 4.
Origin
On January 10th, 2024, Instagram meme page @fallout.t51b[1] posted a fake screenshot message featuring "John Fallout," a character model based on the Fallout 4 game, in which he messages a person with the following text, "Hi it's me John Fallout I need 2000 bottle caps to get into new vegas so I can save the mojave desert. War doesn't change." The post (shown below) amassed over 19,000 likes in five months.
Spread
The fake DM screenshot was shared on other social media platforms over the following days, sparking more memes about the "John Fallout" character. For instance, on April 30th, 2024, TikTok[2] user @nocloudy15 posted a clip (seen below, left) from Fallout 4 paired with the overlay text "What is John Fallout saying," which amassed more than 24,000 plays and 690 likes in a month.
On April 26th, TikTok[3] user @maidencrest uploaded a fan edit of "John Fallout" (seen below, right), which garnered over 28,000 plays and 1,000 likes in a month.
