We Resolve Our Differences at the Battle Box is a quote spoken by U.S. President Joe Biden while addressing the Donald Trump rally shooting and assassination attempt in which he misspoke and said what sounded like, "In America, we resolve our differences at the battle box," instead of "ballot box." Biden made the address on Sunday, July 14th, 2024, and it inspired reactions that night, including memes, largely on X / Twitter, about settling your differences in "the battle box."

Origin

On the night of July 14th, 2024, President Joe Biden addressed the United States in regard to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump at his rally the previous night. During the address, he misspeaks and says what sounds like, "In America, we resolve our differences at the battle box." He then says it a second time, continuing, "You know, that's how we do it, at the battle box."[1]

The clip was shared numerous times on X[2][3] that night, including by users @mazemoore and @EndWokeness, garnering over 22,000 likes and 10,000 likes, respectively, in a day (former shown below).

The quote from President Biden became the subject of reactions and memes shortly after it was shared online. For example, on July 14th, 2024, X[4] user @kikisknees posted an image from the film Gladiator under the quote, garnering over 1,200 likes in a day (shown below).

Later that day, X[5] user @MidnightMitch posted a meme referring to the quote that gained over 2,400 likes in a day (shown below, left). Also on July 14th, X[6] user @The_Kyle_Mann made a post referencing the quote over an image of Goldeneye 007's multiplayer mode, garnering over 650 likes in a day (shown below, right).

On July 15th, 2024, X[7] user @SonofHas posted a screenshot from whitehouse.gov's[8] transcript of Biden's address in which, rather than spell Biden's mispronunciation as "battle" they spell it "battol," the poster writing, "The White House claims Biden said 'battol box' instead of 'battle box.' Which is funny, bc 'battol' isn’t a word," garnering over 1,000 likes in under a day (shown below).
