About

Joe Biden Reacting To Marjorie Taylor Greene At The State Of The Union, also known as Surprised Joe Biden, refers to U.S. President Joe Biden's shocked-looking facial expression when he saw Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene wearing several articles of MAGA clothing including a hat at the March 2024 State of the Union address. The brief exchange between the Congresswoman and the President, which was captured by a CNN camera at the event, circulated online with many commenting on the way each of them looked at the other. The moment subsequently became a reaction meme online over the following days.

Origin

The exchange between Joe Biden and Marjorie Taylor Greene occurred at the March 7th, 2024, State of the Union address as Greene approached Biden wearing a Make America Great Again hat. Biden appeared to respond with both surprise and laughter (seen below) leading many to repost videos of the moment to social media platforms shortly after. For example, on March 7th, X user @BaileyCarlin earned over 88,000 likes in 12 hours for writing that Biden's face "is killing me."[1]

On March 8th, USA Today posted a video capturing the exchange from a different angle (seen below),[2] but the most-discussed and memed version was the CNN one (seen above).

Spread

The image inspired many memes and reactions after the moment was posted online. For example, on March 8th, 2024, X user @AlyssaFrankle (seen below) posted the Woman Yelling At A Cat meme, swapping in Biden and Greene for the characters and earning over 25,000 likes in 12 hours.[3]

Meanwhile, Democratic Congressman Jared Moskowitz posted and then deleted a meme combining the image of Biden's reaction with a photograph of Sydney Sweeney hosting Saturday Night Live. Reporter Yashar Ali posted a version of the meme, telling followers that Moskowitz had deleted it and earning over 6,300 likes in two hours on March 8th (seen below). Moskowitz replied to this repost of his deleted meme with an apology.[4]

The Biden-Harris campaign posted the video to TikTok on March 8th as well (seen below), earning over 645,000 views and 67,000 likes in 16 hours.[5]
