About

Joe Biden's "Everybody" Dance refers to a viral video in which young supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden sing a version of "Everybody (Backstreets Back)" by the Backstreet Boys rewritten to be about Biden in front of the former Vice President. The video was widely mocked as being cringeworthy and was compared to Pete Buttigieg's Panic! At the Disco dance.

Origin

On February 10th, 2020, Twitter user @KateHydeNY posted a video of young Joe Biden supporters singing a parody of "Everybody" by the Backstreet Boys rewritten to be about the former Vice President to Biden himself, writing, "Watch as a chorus of Gen Zs presents a political rendition of Backstreet Boys to a Boomer" (shown below). The teens were identified as a group of Mercer College students.[2]

Spread

Later that day, Twitter user @CANCEL_SAM[1] reposted the video, captioning the video, "Gaze into the abyss of Biden 2020." The Twitter account @StudentsForTrump[3] wrote "I don’t know what’s worse – a Backstreet Boys mashup of “Joe Biden” or Mayor Pete’s “High Hopes” rendition/dance 😬," gaining over 150 retweets (shown below, right).

Others posted reactions to the video, expressing how they felt it was embarrassing. Twitter user @Zardawg[4] highlighted a young person in the video, writing, "This is exactly what I would expect a young person voting for Biden looks like," gaining over 400 likes (shown below, left). User @jkennyamdg[5] posted a GIF of white people wearing a Snuggie, representing Buttigieg and Biden supporters (shown below, right).
