The trend's predecessor, BOO!! Did I Scare You?? I'm A Job Application 😂😂😂 meme started on X in October 2019, becoming popularized on TikTok in May 2025 as netizens added the form in satirical content to mock someone who acts like an unemployed individual on social media.

On October 31st, 2019, X^[1] user @zilinski212 posted the earliest known post showing a man wearing a job application as a mask. The caption on the image read, "BOO!!! IK I scared a lot of ya, I'm a job application for Halloween 🎃😳‼️" The post gathered over 400 likes in five years (seen below).

On May 5th, 2020, an unknown Imgflip^[2] user added a template of the "job application form" meme (seen below) to the site, becoming one of the most widely used in such memes, though other variations exist.

Spread

Many exploitable versions of a job application and employment forms have since been used for memes and comedic content on social media over the years, gaining viral usage on TikTok in the spring of 2025.

For example, on March 29th, 2025, TikTok^[3] user @hry.shtpstr posted a jumpscare joke using the job application form (seen below) template, which amassed over 3 million plays and 469,000 likes in three months.

On May 14th, 2025, TikTok^[4] user @computerisedonalok added the job application form in a clip from Invincible's "Stand Ready for My Arrival, Worm" scene, replacing the character Conquest with the document. The video (seen below) received more than 129,000 plays and 25,000 likes in four days.
