A video of Former President Carter with his family and friends watching an honorary fly-over went viral on social media sites like Twitter / X on the day. Users screenshotted images of Carter from the video, using them to make fun of his appearance and crack jokes about his old age. Two months later, in December 2024, Jimmy Carter died at the age of 100.

On October 1st, 2024, Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter turned 100 years old. A video of him celebrating his birthday with friends and family was posted to X^[1] by @CBSNews on the day, amassing over 112,000 likes in a day (shown below). In the video, Carter is seen in a black wheelchair with white cushions, wearing a grey shirt and a blue cap.

Later on October 1st, X^[2] user @GeebMinister quoted the abovementioned tweet, attaching two screencaps from the video showing Carter in his wheelchair, writing, "Jesus fucking christ, I was not prepared for how dead he was gonna look. He might just be dead." The quote tweet amassed over 25,2000 likes in a day (shown below).

In the following days, many internet users shared the screencaps taken by X^[2] user @GeebMinister of Jimmy Carter on his 100th birthday. For instance, on October 1st, 2024, X^[3] user @eltetarr tweeted a zoomed-in photo of Carter, captioning it, "we need to get him the earliest early ballot possible," referencing the upcoming 2024 U.S. Presidential Election, gaining over 11,000 likes in a day (shown below).

Usage of the image became increasingly nonsensical, absurd and ironic soon after. For instance, on October 1st, X^[4] user @bigcontentguy quoted a picture of actress Sydney Sweeney with the photo of Carter on his 100th birthday, receiving over 19,000 likes in a day (shown below).
