Jill Sandwich is a meme that hails from the video game series Resident Evil. It is known very well for its mix of sarcasm supported by bad acting, the latter of which was very common in the early days of games such as Resident Evil.

Origin

The line was first used in the original first video game in the series by the character Barry Burton who, after saving protagonist Jill Valentine from a descending ceiling trap, where he snarkily remarks that his partner was nearly turned into "a Jill-Sandwich". The line can be found at 0:36 in the above video.

Spread/Mutation

The meme began to take hold of the internet's interest in April 2007, although exactly where it began to take hold is unknown. Since then, the meme has skyrocketed in popularity, even going so far as to cause Resident Evil developer Capcom to take notice. The meme has shown up in quite a number of other places as a result, such as a restaurant in Dead Rising bearing the name "Jill's Sandwiches".
