Origin

On January 4th, 2024, Calvin Klein released a promotional video in which American actor Jeremy Allen White is shown frolicking on a sun-soaked rooftop in New York City either shirtless or pantless. The ad was uploaded on YouTube[1] (shown below) amassing more than 47,000 views and 1,300 likes in a day.

Alongside the video, the brand also shared several print ads from the campaign on X,[2] which garnered more than 1,500 likes and 327 retweets in a day.

Spread

The underwear ad immediately went viral on social media. For instance, on January 4th, 2024, TikTok[3] @theabbybible posted a video of her and some girlfriends watching Allen's Calvin Klein ad (shown below, left), which garnered over 3.6 million plays and 394,000 likes in a day. On the same day, TikTok[4] user @aardenee shared a video of a co-worker watching the promotional video (shown below, right), which amassed roughly 71,000 plays and 4,000 likes in a day.

On January 4th, 2024, X[5] user @redrumjuan posted a GIF of American singer Beyoncé tapping a Nintendo DS paired with the caption "me liking every Jeremy Allen White for Calvin Klein tweet I see on the timeline." The post (shown below) received more than 7,900 likes and 814 retweets in a day.
