About
"Jennifer's Body" 99% Accurate refers to a TikTok trend in which people remake the intro beat of rapper Ken Carson's song "Jennifer's Body" using obscure objects like water faucets, cereal and video games. The trend was inspired by a leak of "Jennifer's Body" which became a viral photo slideshow sound in mid-2023. The trend parodied producers' "100% Accurate" remakes of the beat.
Origin
Before the "99% Accurate" meme, a leak of Ken Carson's song "Jennifer's Body" (which later appeared on his October 2023 album A Great Chaos) trended on TikTok as a viral meme sound.[1] On October 13th, 2023, "Jennifer's Body" was the second track on Carson's album A Great Chaos.[2]
After the album's release, producers started to replicate the "Jennifer's Body" beat, adding the key phrase "100% Accurate" in their video title or description in order to help with reach. For instance, on October 13th, 2023, YouTuber[3] mackszy posted a "Jennifer's Body (100% Accurate)" instrumental, gaining over 56,300 views in two months (shown below).
Meme creators then started making humorous covers of the beat. One of the first was TikToker[4] @ligington who made an "old internet" ringtone, gaining roughly 340,500 plays and 64,400 likes in two months (shown below, left).
On November 18th, 2023, TikToker[5] @3ntrvl posted a screen-recording of a "(100% Accurate)" remake on YouTube that was similar to @ligington's ringtone remake. TikToker[5] @3ntrvl added text reading, "who told bro this was accurate," gaining over 440,100 plays and 68,900 likes in one month (shown below, right).
Spread
The aforementioned TikTok[5] inspired many to make increasingly bad remakes of "Jennifer's Body." For instance, on November 26th, 2023, TikToker[6] @caviaregg posted a remake with trumpet sounds, gaining roughly 869,700 plays and 121,900 likes in one month (shown below, left).
On November 29th, 2023, TikToker[7] @quicksilver424 posted a video in which they'd recorded the song on a Christmas card, gaining roughly 383,800 plays and 60,300 likes in 19 days (shown below, right).
Iterations of the trend became increasingly absurd going into December 2023. For instance, on December 12th, 2023, TikToker[8] @chartersamster posted a remake that used an electric razor, gaining over 323,800 plays and 60,800 likes in six days (shown below, left).
On December 16th, 2023, TikToker[9] @dltttt_ posted an iteration in which he poured water into a glass, gaining over 991,200 plays and 164,400 likes in two days (shown below, right).
The trend also gained cross-platform spread in December 2023, evident in a tweet shared by X[10] user @deeznutvinecomp on December 16th, 2023, who likened the trend to the term Brain Rot, gaining over 5,300 likes in two days (shown below).
