About

Jeffrey Epstein CCTV Footage Missing Minute refers to discussions and debates about nearly 11 hours of CCTV footage released by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI on July 7th, 2025. The tape reportedly shows video footage of a staircase and hallway leading to Jeffrey Epstein's cell and was released in an attempt to quell conspiracy theories that Epstein did not kill himself in his jail cell.

Soon after the footage was released, some internet users claimed that the clock on the tape appears to "jump" from the 11:58:59 timestamp to 11:59:59 p.m., prompting discussions about a "missing minute" in the Epstein CCTV footage. Pam Bondi attributed the discrepancy to a built-in mechanism in the CCTV camera in a subsequent press conference. On July 11th, 2025, WIRED magazine published an article alleging that, according to the metadata retrieved from the video, the footage from Jeffrey Epstein's cell was edited with Adobe Premiere Pro, stitched from 2 clips, and was saved 4 times.

Origin

On July 6th, 2025, Axios[1] reporter Alex Isenstadt published a leaked Department of Justice and FBI memo reaffirming that Epstein killed himself, citing newly enhanced CCTV footage showing no one entered or exited his cell between 7:49 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. the next morning. In addition to stating that Epstein did not keep a client list, the memo also included a link to nearly 11 hours of "enhanced" CCTV footage.

In video footage that can be found on the U.S. DOJ's website,[2] a man in an orange jumpsuit and silver hair, presumably Epstein, can be seen being escorted to his cell by guards at the 7:49:30 timestamp. The actual door to Epstein's cell is not visible in the footage.

At around 10:14 a.m. EST on July 7th, Twitter / X[3] user @adamscochran tweeted, "Turns out that the Epstein footage has also been cut, or had timestamps altered. An entire minute of footage is clearly missing!" The post was accompanied by a section of the video footage showing the timestamp jumping from 11:58:59 PM to 11:59:59 p.m., and stretching slightly. The post gathered over 1,000 likes in a day.

Other internet users noted the "missing minute" on July 7th, including YouTuber Coffeezilla, [4] who tweeted, "Why is there 1 minute missing from the EPSTEIN security camera footage? 11:58:59PM → 11:59:59PM," gathering over 36,000 likes in a day.

The post was quote-tweeted by various internet personalities on July 7th, including podcaster and comedian Joe Rogan, [6] who wrote, "Interesting."

Also on July 7th, Redditor u/andrewgrabowski posted about the "missing minute" in the Epstein CCTV footage to the /r/law[7] subreddit, gathering over 45,000 upvotes in a day.

The post gathered over 11,000 likes in a day.

That same day, conspiracy theorist and podcaster Alex Jones posted a video[8] about the "missing minute" in the footage released by the DOJ, writing, "This is a set up to make the Trump Admin look guilty of a cover up! WIRED Metadata Investigation

On July 11th, 2025, WIRED[13] magazine published an article alleging that the footage from Jeffrey Epstein's cell that was released by the DOJ was edited with Adobe Premiere Pro, stitched from 2 clips, and was saved 4 times. Metadata embedded in the video and analyzed by WIRED and independent video forensics experts reportedly showed that, rather than being a direct export from the prison's surveillance system, the footage was modified before being shared with the public.
