About

Jeffree Star vs. the Illuminati refers to a series of accusations levied by beauty YouTuber Jeffree Star regarding his "escape" from The Illuminati ranging from 2020 to 2023. In late December 2022, Star posted a series of tweets that levied his accusations, citing the "Hollywood elite" and comparing himself to Britney Spears and Kanye West. The cryptic tweets led to many memes and reactions. Some believed Star while others were skeptical, claiming that he was attention-seeking and performing a publicity stunt. Others made memes that imagined Star escaping the Illuminati and wondered about what they were pursuing Star for in the first place.

Origin

On December 30th, 2022, Jeffree Star posted a tweet[1] reading, "What a crazy fucking year… I escaped the illuminati in 2021 and they still haven’t killed me. Every day I wake up grateful," gaining roughly 51,500 likes in five days (shown below).

Minutes later on December 30th, Star posted another tweet[2] reading, "In 2020 I was going to expose everything… In a matter of days, the Hollywood elite tried to ruin my entire career, villainize me and flooded the news with lies to discredit me. If you guys only knew the truth about what they are doing to Britney & Kayne," gaining roughly 89,200 likes in five days (shown below). Soon after on December 30th, Star also tweeted,[3] "Anyone who challenges the system gets eliminated," gaining roughly 29,900 likes.

Spread

Later on December 30th, 2022, the Twitter[4] account PopBase tweeted about Star's Illuminati tweets, gaining roughly 67,800 likes in five days (shown below, left). On the same day, the Twitter[5] account PopCrave posted a similar tweet, gaining roughly 13,300 likes in the same time period (shown below, right).

Following the tweets sent by PopBase and PopCrave, multiple reactions and memes surfaced on Twitter. Others inferred and speculated that Star was simply attention-seeking via the tweets. Did you get Engagement?" with, "Me to Jeffree Star:" The meme received roughly 8,300 likes in five days (shown below).

Later on December 30th, 2022, Star posted to Twitter[8] again, writing, "I still have a soul. Can’t say that about a lot of these demons I used to surround myself with." The tweet received roughly 23,700 likes in five days.

Similar to the other Illuminati-centered tweets, Twitter users decided to post memes about it. With their jokes, they often focused on the concept of Star's "demons." For instance, on December 30th, 2022, Twitter[9] user gomezgetaway_ tweeted, "'demons I used to surround myself with' / the demon in question:" and included a photo of James Charles, specifically a photo of Charles in his "Womp Womp Womp Yeah Yeah Yeah" video.
