Jeff Sessions Time Cover refers to a series of joke, discussion and parodies of the March 2018 cover of Time Magazine that features a close-up photograph of United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions's face. Due to the lighting of the photograph, some online, people made jokes about how "scary" the picture appeared.

Origin

On March 29th, 2018, Time Magazine[1] tweeted the cover for their upcoming issue titled "The Trials of Jeff Sessions." The post (shown below) received more than 130 retweets and 200 likes in 24 hours.

Spread

Shortly after the cover was posted, people online began making jokes about the lighting in the photograph. Upworthy writer Parker Molloy tweeted[2] the cover juxtaposed with the DVD for the Leprechaun horror film series. She captioned the tweet, "They’ve got Sessions lit like he’s on the cover of the box set for the Leprechaun movies." The post (shown below, left) received more than 1,700 retweets and 8,700 likes in 24 hours.

Some remarked about why Time chose that particular photgraph. Writer Scott Tobias tweeted[3] the cover and a screenshot from The Simpsons of Mr. Burns saying, "We did 20 takes, and that was the best one." The post (shown below, center) received more than 75 retweets and 650 likes in 24 hours.

MSNBC producer tweeted,[4] "Jeff Sessions is on the cover of TIME. Remember, Trump was reportedly bothered and annoyed last year when Bannon was on the cover of TIME." The tweet (shown below, right) received more than 1,000 retweets and 2,200 within 24 hours.
