Jeff Bezos' New Year's 2022 refers to a photograph of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on New Year's Eve 2022 with his girlfriend Lauren Sánchez. Bezos uploaded the photo to his Instagram on New Year's Day. Meme creators used the image as an exploitable format across Twitter and Reddit going into that year.

On January 1st, 2022, Jeff Bezos uploaded a carousel post to his Instagram^[1] that featured seven photographs of him with his friends and family on New Year's Eve 2022. Pictured in the photographs, most notably, were his son, Owen Bezos, and his girlfriend, Lauren Sánchez. The primary image of the carousel post was a photo of Bezos and Sánchez standing in front of a swimming pool and embracing each other (shown below). The post received roughly 514,100 likes over the course of 10 days.

The photograph of Bezos and Sánchez was used in memes on Twitter before other platforms. On January 1st, 2022, Twitter^[2] user ParkerMolloy was the first to use it as a meme. Her tweet (shown below) captioned the image, "Jeff Bezos inches closer to becoming Pitbull." The tweet received roughly 112,700 likes over the course of 10 days.

The image continued to see use as a meme on January 1st, 2022, such as Twitter^[3] user MollyOShah who posted another tweet that day, captioning the image, "This is the most divorced photo I’ve ever seen." Her tweet (shown below) received roughly 34,800 likes over 10 days.

The image of Bezos and Sánchez was shared to the /r/photoshopbattles^[4] subreddit on January 1st by Redditor JohnGoodmanNSFW. After receiving 74 upvotes, Redditors created photoshopped memes exploiting the image. For instance, Redditor Affectionate_Room_38 photoshopped Pitbull into the photograph, posting his meme to Imgur^[5] (shown below).

Redditor yellenbubbleblower posted a meme using the image to /r/HolUp^[6] on January 1st. The meme (shown below) received roughly 58,700 upvotes over the course of 10 days.

Twitter^[7] user caroljsroth compared the 2022 version of Jeff Bezos to a younger photograph of Bezos from 1998, subsequently making a before-and-after type meme. The tweet (shown below) received roughly 11,400 likes over 10 days after being posted on January 1st.
