About

JD You Coming To Practice? refers to a catchphrase and spam comment common on TikTok that originates from an Instagram Story screenshot in which a guy (presumably named J.D.) posted an iMessage he received from a friend who asked him if he was coming to practice. J.D. responded "Yea" in the Instagram story's text and the screenshot (taken by an observer) joked, "mfs put anything on they story," highlighting that J.D.'s Instagram story was odd. The original meme was posted in a viral TikTok photo slideshow in mid-2024, spawning the spam comment trend on the app and elsewhere online. The trend circulated simultaneously with other TikTok comment trends like Jah Pull Off and Them YNs, resulting in slang overload content that combined all of the prevalent catchphrases and made fun of their overuse.

Origin

On July 15th, 2024, Instagram[1] user @bussalo reposted a photo from a currently unknown TikTok slideshow. It was an Instagram Story with an iMessage reading, "Jd u coming to practice?" and text responding, "Yea." Whoever posted it to TikTok added, "mfs put anything on they story 😭😭😭😭😭😭." The original creator is currently unknown, however, the first Instagram[1] repost received roughly 1,500 likes in a month (shown below).

The abovementioned screenshot was riffing on a series of one-photo TikTok slideshows in which TikTokers made fun of Instagram stories with text joking about how people put anything on their stories. For instance, on July 3rd, 2024, TikToker[2] @1luhh.jayoo posted an IG Story screenshot that showed an iMessage conversation reading, "how was football practice?" and "It was str8," receiving over 86,700 likes in a month (shown below). "It was str8" also became its own meme alongside JD You Coming To Practice?

Spread

Going into July 2024, TikTokers commented "JD You Coming To Practice?" on numerous viral videos and slideshows, leading to content that referenced the phenomenon. In a month, the video received roughly 244,400 plays and 14,500 likes (shown below, left).

On August 1st, TikToker[4] @stanclickin posted a similar video about the catchphrase, amassing over 558,800 plays and 4,600 likes in 19 days (shown below, right).
