J.D. Vance In Drag At Yale Law School refers to a series of images posted by Twitter / X user @mattxiv supposedly showing Republican Vice Presidential candidate and Donald Trump running mate J.D. Vance wearing eyeliner and a cheap blonde wig. The images were reportedly taken in 2012 during Vance's time at Yale Law School. After the photos were spread online in mid-August 2024, Travis Whitfill, an Assistant Professor Adjunct at Yale, came forward as having taken at least one of the photos of Vance dressed as a woman.

Origin

On August 11th, 2024, X^[1] user @mattxiv posted an image reportedly showing Republican Vice Presidential nominee J.D. Vance dressed in a shiny blonde wig, eyeliner, a gold necklace and a skirt. The post was captioned, "new: I have obtained a photo of jd vance in drag while at yale law school." The post gathered over 94,000 likes in a day (seen below)

On August 12th, @mattxiv quoted the post with another image,^[2] this time captioned, "a second photo has hit my inbox," in reference to the George Bush Learns meme.

The two images (shown below) quickly spread online in the following days, evoking various reactions from users.

On August 11th, 2024, X^[3] user @twhitfill replied to @mattxiv's original post, writing, "Hi Matt I was the source of the photo (sent through friends to you). This was taken in 2012 (the same time I was at Yale 🥴). Photo was taken by a classmate and sent to me. Thanks for sharing 😘." The reply (seen below) garnered over 533,000 views in 12 hours.

Many internet users commented on the post shortly after, with X^[4] user @rjb_1998 writing on August 11th, "Wonder if America is different because convinced dressing up as a woman at uni for a night out is one of the straightest things a man can do in the UK." The post gathered over 4,000 likes in an hour (seen below, left).

Meanwhile, X^[5] user @ashtonpittman wrote that same day, "If you're gonna build a political career on being anti-LGBTQ, maybe make sure there aren't photos of you in (bad) drag first," gathering over 1,000 likes in roughly an hour (seen below, right).
