About

Jayce PFP War refers to a TikTok trend among the Arcane fandom in which users change their profile pictures to an edit of the character Jayce's face, with some profile pictures featuring a green checkmark over his face to show support for the character, or a red cross to show opposition. The trend began in late November, 2024 shortly after Arcane season two began airing on Netflix. The trend is similar to TikTok cult trends.

Origin

Jayce is a character in Arcane, an animated Netflix series based on League of Legends. The character is divisive, with some fans of the show hating him for his actions.[1] The trend was particularly sparked by a moment in the second season where he kills another character.

The Jayce PFP war began on TikTok as early as November 17th, 2024. While it's unconfirmed who exactly started the war, the earliest known video related to it was posted by TikToker[2] @bubbachunkazoid on that day, consisting of an image of Jayce's Netflix profile picture with a green circle and checkmark over it, captioned, "new pfp for the week cause Jayce did nothing wrong," garnering over 13,000 views in four days.

Spread

The trend went viral over the following days as Arcane fans changed their profile pictures to edits of the Jayce PFP. Each edit is meant to show either support, opposition or confused feelings towards Jayce. Some are funny edits that alter Jayce to look like another character.

On November 18th, TikToker[3] @jadhd posted a meme about being a Jayce supporter and feeling overwhelmed by haters, garnering over 247,000 views in three days.

On the same day, X[4] user @meowwheeler posted an image of a green checkmark, yellow question mark and red cross version of the Jayce PFP edited onto a traffic light, writing, "arcane tiktok rn," garnering over 69,000 likes and 7,300 reposts in three days.

That day TikToker[5] @ilykotetsu posted a Symphony edit consisting of several Jayce PFPs, garnering over 500,000 views in two days. Around the same day, the official @leagueoflegends TikTok[6] page changed their PFP to a version of the picture combining the check, question mark and cross.

On November 20th, X[7] user @hoseokstwink posted a thread consisting of over 130 examples of the Jayce profile pictures, garnering over 31,000 likes and 3,100 reposts in a day (examples shown below).
