Jay-Z on a Jet-ski refers to images of rapper Jay-Z seen riding an aquatic motorboat with a serious expression. The photo surfaced in early July of 2018, leading Twitter users to make jokes at the rapper's expense.

Origin

On July 2nd, 2018, a photo of Jay-Z riding a jet-ski began circulating on Twitter. According to US Weekly,^[1] the photo was from a vacation the rapper had in Sardinia, Italy, and was taken August 16th, 2016 (shown below).

Spread

On July 2nd, multiple Twitter users began making jokes about the image, particularly mocking Jay-Z's serious expression. Twitter user @keiryoncecruz posted images of Beyoncé and Jay-Z riding jet-skis. Beyoncé notably seems much more happy than Jay-Z in the images. The tweet gained over 3,900 retweets and 14,000 likes (shown below, left) On July 3rd, a joke by @YC gained over 1,900 retweets and 5,100 likes (shown below, right).

Other Twitter users parodied the image with photoshops. For example, user @Bosslogic photoshopped the image into a fake movie poster, gaining over 90 retweets (shown below, left). User @JPSportsGuy photoshopped the image into the cover of Wave Race 64 gained over 1,500 retweets and 5,100 likes (shown below, right). The jokes were covered by Blavity,^[2] USA Today,^[3] Twitter Moments,^[4] and more.
