Jahcoin or Jah Coin refers to non-existent cryptocurrency inspired by late American rapper Jahseh "XXXTentacion" Onfroy. In January 2019 Jahcoin, along with several other items named after the rapper, became a popular subject of memes on Instagram and Reddit.

Origin

"Jah", a diminutive form of name "Jahseh", has been used by fans of late American rapper Jahseh "XXXTentacion" Onfroy to refer to the artist. In late 2018, the word became popular among subscribers of /r/Hiphopcirclejerks^[1]^[2] in ironic posts about the rapper (examples shown below).

On February 25th, 2018, Redditor^[3] Jahshaka launched /r/jahcoin subreddit. In several posts made between February 26th and March 1st, Jahshaka^[4] urged users to "Download Jahshaka and start mining Jahcoin today". The subreddit remained dormant until January 2019.

On December 31st, 2018, Instagram user salad.snake^[12] posted a stock image of a coin with XXXTentacion's face and word "Jahcoin" photoshopped onto it. The post gained over 17,000 likes in three weeks.

On the same day, the image was reposted by Redditor^[5] xamdzcx to /r/Hiphopcirclejerk subreddit, where it gained 66 upvotes in 17 days, and by Twitter user @MochaPoster^[6].

Spread

On January 1st, 2019, YouTuber^[7] Matt Moulis used the image in a video titled The JAHCOIN. The video gained over 2,200 views in 16 days.

In early January, posts about Jahcoin started appearing on Instagram^[8], /r/okbuddyretard^[9] subreddit and in previously dormant /r/jahcoin^[10] subreddit, sometimes paired with llj ("Long Live Jahseh") hashtag.

On January 12th, 2019, Instagram^[11] user Crust.mp4 posted a remix in which XXXTentacion put on "JahPods" earbuds. The video gained over 106,000 views in five days.
