Ivy is a playable character from the upcoming MOBA video game Deadlock, in development by Valve. Ivy is a winged gargoyle wearing a flat cap, and is a support character whose abilities include flight and stone form in which she turns invincible. The character has been a popular subject of fan art and hornyposting in the Deadlock community, and particularly on 4chan's /v/ board.
Origin
On May 22nd, a 1:16 second long clip of Valve's upcoming video game Deadlock was leaked online.[1] The leaked video included a preview screen for a support character called Ivy, a female gargoyle with a nose ring, wearing suspenders and a flat hat, and wielding a machine gun (preview screen shown below).
In Deadlock, Ivy is a support character who excels at surviving thanks to her measurability, healing and stone form, in which she is invulnerable. Ivy's is able to connect to a nearby ally, sharing her healing with them.[2]
Spread
In the days following the leak, the character found immediate attention on 4chan's /v/ board, with some users sharing fan art, including NSFW fan art, of the character, and hornyposting about her. On August 22nd, a /v/[3][4] user shared several renders of an AI model based on the character, with users describing the character as "cute" and replying with 'Would' reactions (example post[5] shown below).
Starting on May 23rd, 2024, various fan art of the character was shared on the /v/ board: for example, on May 28th, 2024, artist Uglycoal posted one such artwork in /v/[6] (shown below). On June 2nd, Uglycoal posted a collection of their SFW Ivy sketches in the /r/DeadlockTheGame[7] subreddit, where it received over 250 upvotes in three months.
From 4chan, the popularity of the character spread to X and Reddit, where multiple artworks dedicated to her were shared over Summer 2024. For example, on August 26th, 2024, X[8] user @commonbleat posted a I'm Not Gonna Sugarcoat It meme that received over 550 reposts and 4,400 likes in three days (shown below).
