It's My Sleepover and I Get to Choose the Movie refers to an exploitable image macro of Link from The Legend of Zelda series holding a film above his head as if in battle with the titular phrase written next to him.
Origin
The earliest known usage of the format was posted by Instagram [2] user @acrylic_cinnamon, which shows Link holding the cover of the film Ride Along, on January 19th, 2018. The post received more than 1,900 likes in one year.
Spread
On February 15th, 2018, Reddit user semajvc posted an edit of the image in /r/dankmemes[1] featuring Link holding the cover of Drake and Josh Go Hollywood: The Movie, gaining over 4,300 points (shown below).
After that post, the format began spreading on other websites. For example, on February 25th, 2018, Tumblr user cowboydan posted an edit featuring Link holding Digimon: The Movie gaining over 21,000 notes (shown below, left). On March 2nd, Instagram account dank_memes posted an example using Flubber, gaining over 6,800 likes (shown below, right).
The meme continued seeing use over the following several months. For example, on July 7th, Twitter user @gothforpay posted an example using Donnie Darko, gaining over 2,200 retweets and 5,400 likes (shown below, left). User @RamenBomber, since deleted, posted a variation using a still from Super Smash Brothers.
