It's Been Three Hours Shut Up About Karl Marx or But I Thought Communism Was Bad is an exploitable meme format based on a webcomic where The Chipettes member Jeanette from Alvin and the Chipmunks explains the positive sides of communism to Eleanor, resulting in Brittany yelling to her, "Jeanette it's been three hours stop talking about Karl Marx!" The comic was originally posted to Tumblr in 2018 and became the subject of redraws and edits throughout the 2020s.

Origin

On December 15th, 2018, Tumblr^[1] user turochamp posted a webcomic where Jeanette of The Chipettes discusses communism with Eleanor, resulting in Brittany yelling at her to shut up, garnering over 90,000 notes in six years (shown below). This is the earliest known version of the meme.

Spread

The meme inspired redraws over the following years. On January 30th, 2021, Redditor u/Grillos posted a screenshot of the meme with an additional comment to /r/tumblr,^[2] garnering over 7,000 upvotes in three years. On February 16th, 2022, u/tizzy-will-rule posted a redraw of the meme to /r/danganronpa ^[3] that garnered over 1,400 upvotes in two years (shown below).

On August 6th, u/Evillisa posted a version of the meme to /r/Deltarune,^[4] garnering over 1,300 upvotes in two years (shown below, left). On March 11th, 2024, Tumblr^[5] user dapper-lil-arts posted a "My Little Pony": version of the meme that gained over 1,000 notes in a day (shown below, right).
