It's Been 84 Years or Já Faz 84 Anos in Portuguese or Han Pasado 84 Años in Spanish refers to a memorable quote from the 1997 Titanic movie character Rose. The main character is seen at the beginning of the film as an elderly woman retelling the events of the night of the shipwreck, saying "It's been 84 years." The quote was popularized in multiple languages online as a reaction image, GIF and image macro used to express impatience with the pace of things.
Origin
On December 19th, 1997, James Cameron’s three-hour drama about the tragic events of the Titanic shipwreck was released in theaters. Within the movie, there was a scene in which an older version of the character Rose Bukater recollects her memories about first seeing the ship, saying, "It’s been 84 years, and I can still smell the fresh paint." A video of the quote was uploaded on YouTube[1] on March 4th, 2014, by user Limuelarevalo4759. The post (shown below) garnered 214,000 views and 1,600 likes in nine years.

The earliest usage of the quote found online was posted on Tumblr[2] on December 23rd, 2012 by user zackisontumblr, who uploaded a GIF paired with the text "It's been 84 years" and the caption "Waiting for someone to have a crush on me." The post (shown below) garnered 193,000 votes in 11 years.
In the following years, the quote became a classic image macro meme on social media, used to express impatience or tiredness with the events happening in various aspects of one's life, such as dating, having a career, going to parties and etc. On July 18th, 2020, Redditor[3] u/oreo_dragon discovered the origin of the meme (shown below) and shared a meme about it, receiving 41 upvotes in three years.
Já Faz 84 Anos
A Portuguese version of the quote also became a popular reaction GIF and image macro on social media. For instance, on November 28th, 2018, Twitter[4] user @ufrgsnoticias decided to celebrate the university's 84 years anniversary by sharing the "já faz 84 anos" GIF of the Titanic movie scene. The post (shown below) garnered 1,000 likes and 249 retweets in five years.
Han Pasado 84 Años
The Spanish version of the quote, "Han pasado 84 años," has also been popularized as a meme on the internet. For example, on May 9th, 2019, Facebook[5] page @nuevamujerlatam posted the scene with the overlay text "When was the last time you saw your friend?" The post (shown below) garnered 168 likes and 696 comments in four years.
