"-Ito" Suffix refers to a snowclone in which people point out that in Spanish, the "-ito" suffix denotes a smaller version of a larger thing, and if that was true for English, English words with "ito" at the end would imply a larger version of the word; for example, the word "Dorito" would imply a large chip known as the "Doro."

Origin

The earliest known record of this observation was tweeted by user @UniqueDude2.^[1] Though the tweet appears to have been deleted, a screenshot of the tweet dates it to October 23rd, 2017 (shown below).

Spread

The idea began spreading in various jokes months later. On February 9th, 2018, Imgur user lordlasagna^[2] posted the same idea as @uniquedude2 with the Dashing Black Man Holding Large Dorito image, gaining over 3,700 points (shown below, left). On May 22nd, an anonymous Imgur^[3] user made a similar image about Despacito, gaining over 3,100 views (shown below, right).

Other examples include a post by Redditor Hairdogan in /r/me_irl^[4] on October 26th, 2018 using the word "Burrito" and gaining over 360 points (shown below, left) and an October 30th, 2018 post in /r/Memes^[5] by Estupen1 using the word "Mosquito" that gained over 700 points (shown below, right).
