About
Is Your Smile Stitched? also known as Why Is Your Smile Stitched? refers to a series of animation memes riffing on an original fan animation, created by YouTuber Pinknase in July 2024, about the characters Alastor and Charlie Morningstar from the cartoon Hazbin Hotel. Alastor's smile is "stitched" in the animation, and when Charlie asks, "Alastor!! Is your smile stitched?" he responds, "I'm fine." Charlie then says, "I'll fix whatever or whoever did this to you." She then cuts the green stitches with a pair of scissors. Alastor is then shown crying while other Hazbin Hotel characters react and console him. Alastor also says, "Don't look at me!" The animation was set to the Bo Burnham song "All Eyes On Me."
The animation, according to some fans, was loosely based on an Alastor quote from the show about fake smiles, when he told Charlie, "Just because you see a smile, don't think you know what's going on underneath." The animation was reposted to Instagram Reels and TikTok in late 2025, where it inspired largely ironic variations involving different characters that became increasingly nonsensical and absurd. A widely held perception on TikTok was that the original "Is Your Smile Stitched?" animation was cringe.
