About
Is There A Taylor Swift For Men? refers to jokes about a zealous hot take from a Taylor Swift stan in which she marvels that Swift "so perfectly encapsulates through her lyrics, the interior lives of women." She then wonders if men have "someone like that." The January 2024 tweet spread widely as people mocked it both for its zealousness and posted jokey responses about male artists who "encapsulate" the interior lives of men.
Origin
On January 19th, 2024, Twitter / X user @EmilyKMay[1] posted an appreciative tweet of Taylor Swift, writing, "she so perfectly encapsulates through her lyrics, the interior lives of women. It's why we all can't stop listening. We're all saying, 'wait you felt that way? we were all feeling this way?'" She then asks if men have an equivalent musical artist. The tweet gained over 10,000 retweets, 9,800 likes, and 9,700 quote tweets in three days (shown below). In subsequent tweets, she said she doesn't think men have someone like that and that they should.
Spread
Emily's post was quickly mocked as it spread on social media over the following days. Many of these tweets called upon humorous examples of men who "encapsulate the interior lives of men." For example, on January 20th, 2024, Twitter user @metaltxt[2] quote-tweeted it with a screenshot of the lyrics to "The Boys Are Back In Town," gaining over 7,300 retweets and 91,000 likes in two days (shown below, left). The same day, Twitter user Manuclearbomb[3] joked about the tweet using an old tweet by NBA player Kevin Durant, gaining over 440 retweets and 5,800 likes in two days (shown below, right).
Others mocked the tweet by challenging Emily's assertion that Taylor is popular due to her "encapsulating the interior lives of women." For example, on January 20th, Twitter user @RasberryRazz[4] argued that artists including Joni Mitchell and Nina Simone had similar relatability, gaining over 16 retweets and 70 likes in two days (shown below, left). The same day, user @tmavuram[5] said the poster needed to "rethink some things" and that if a person believed that Taylor Swift "encapsulated" the interior lives of women, "you likely do not know much about other people or have much interest in understanding them," gaining over 15 retweets and 400 likes in two days (shown below, right).
