About

Is He Up Next Out Of Atlanta? is an exploitable template that meme creators insert contextless images into to ask if the character or object they present is the next rapper or hip-hop artist to became famous from Atlanta. The meme parodies RapTV infographics in general. The first iteration was made in late 2020 on Instagram.

Origin

In September 2020, the Instagram meme page floppaism, a page dedicated to posting Big Floppa memes, uploaded the first known version of the template. It is unknown whether they created the "Is He Up Next Out Of Atlanta?" text box, but traces of its origin date back to floppaism's meme only. However, floppaism's account was soon deleted in early October 2020, relocating their page to a different handle, floppaism.v3.[1]

The first known repost of their meme was posted on September 25th, 2020, by the Instagram[2] page creator, who over the course of two years received over 100 likes (shown below). A "@floppaism" watermark is notably visible within the image.

Spread

On January 12th, 2021, Twitter[3] user savrealmsgayson was the first to exploit the template, replacing Big Floppa with image macros of a McDonald's hashbrown. The meme (shown below) received over 30 likes in one year via the tweet. Additionally, savrealmsgayson has a much larger following on Instagram,[4] however, their account is private despite them having roughly 26,900 followers. It's most likely that the meme shown below was also posted there where it received more engagement.

On April 26th, 2021, Instagram[5] meme page wheatzies posted a video version of the meme, editing in images of Minato Aqua from Hololive who in the meme sings the song, "Dadadada Tenshi." [6] The meme (shown below) earned roughly 4,300 views and 1,000 likes in one year.

Going into the remainder of 2021, more meme creators on Instagram referenced their own fandoms within the format, specifically anime fandoms. For instance, on June 29th, 2021, the Instagram[7] page chainsaw.man.memes posted a version that referenced the anime Chainsaw Man and earned roughly 2,400 likes in nine months (shown below, left). On July 7th, 2021, Instagram[8] page inhalemybees posted a version that referenced One Piece, earning roughly 13,400 likes in eight months (shown below, right).
