Origin

The exact origin of ironic Breaking Bad memes is unknown. An early indicator of their spread is the creation of the r/OkBuddyRetard-themed subreddit r/okbuddychicanery on March 24th, 2020.[1] This was around the time that the Jesse, What the Fuck Are You Talking About meme became popular.

Breaking Bad Roleplay

Breaking Bad Roleplay often depicts bizarre conversations between Walter White and his partner-in-crime Jesse Pinkman, as seen in formats like Breaking Bad comics. A popular example is a July 2020 Twitter post by Jixaw called "Breaking Good" in which he voice acts an ironic interaction between Walter and Jesse.[3] Jixaw uploaded the video to YouTube on September 12th and received over 530,000 views in a month (shown below).[4] On sites such as Twitter and Discord, multiple posts and image macros are shown in succession to simulate Walter and Jesse talking to each other. An Arabic Walter White variant was uploaded[5] to YouTuber by user Black Yoshi on September 20th, 2020 (shown below, right). It gained gained over 800,000 views in a year and a half.
