About
Insecurity / Anxiety Text Messages refers to an exploitable image of an iPhone screen of a person who has received texts from manifestations of their insecurity, anxiety, and a third party, which is changed in the exploitables to be something humorous.
Origin
On May 12th, 2017, Instagram user thebadguy_isback[1] posted the original image. The text from "Insecurity" reads "I will always be a part of you and I never plan on leaving." "Anxiety" reads "I wonder what we can make go wrong today." The third text message is from "Depresion," and reads "I'm going to get inside your head. Even your medicine won't control me." The image gained over 18,000 likes (shown below).
Spread
On June 4th, 2017, Redditor bootum[2] posted a photoshopped version of the image, in which the text message is replaced by one from YouTuber Ray William Johnson that reads "hey." The post gained over 90 points (shown below).
This started the trend of making the third text message in the image be from a humorous or bizarre sender. After that post, several more edits were made primarily on Reddit, Instagram, and Facebook meme pages. For example, popular Instagram meme account scariest_bug_ever[3] posted a version on July 18th, 2017 using the Pls Rember That Wen U Feel Scare / Wen Day Is Dark Alway Rember Happy Day meme, gaining over 5,700 likes (shown below, left). On August 13th, Weird Facebook page Unexpected Dank Memes[4] posted a version in which a cow sends the third text message, gaining over 2,500 likes and reactions (shown below, right).
