About

Ingrid Andress' Home Run Derby National Anthem refers to a viral video of musician Ingrid Andress performing the Star Spangled Banner ahead of the 2024 Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas. The performance was remarkably off-key and featured several bizarre riffs on the song, leading social media to roast it and compare it to Fergie's infamous performance of the anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, among others. The following day, Andress stated that she was drunk at the time, resulting in her poor performance of the song.

Origin

On July 15th, 2024, Ingrid Andress, a Grammy-nominated musician, performed the National Anthem ahead of the 2024 Home Run Derby. The performance featured multiple moments in which Andress went off-key and sang confusing riffs on the traditional song. It was posted to YouTube that evening by the channel Buzzer Beater,[1] where it gained over 896,000 views in less than 24 hours (shown below).

Spread

The performance was instantly the subject of jokes and chatter on social media. On July 15th, 2024, the Twitter / X account ah_pod[2] posted a clip of the performance asking, "did we just get pranked?" gaining over 390 retweets and 3,300 likes in one day, though it has since been deleted.

Also that day, Twitter user @benjpalmer[3] posted an edit of comedian Maya Rudolph poorly singing the anthem in front of a shot of the Home Run Derby, gaining over 150 retweets and 1,000 likes in one day (shown below).

Others claimed that the performance was worse than Fergie's much-memed performance of the anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.

For example, on the evening of July 15th, 2024, Twitter user @theyloveus[4] posted a clip of Jose Mourinho celebrating, joking it represented Fergie celebrating no longer having the title of worst anthem of all time, gaining over 850 retweets and 9,100 likes in one day (shown below, top). User @seniorzapo[5] also posted a celebratory sports clip with the same joke that day, gaining over 230 retweets and 2,900 likes in the same timeframe (shown below, bottom).

Of note, Alec Bohm, a participant in the derby, appeared to be laughing during the performance. On July 16th, Twitter user @mccrystal_alex[6] noted it was similar to the clip of Draymond Green laughing during Fergie's performance (seen below).

Ingrid Andress' Response
