Indo Ali

Indo Ali is a Brazilian version of the Smurf Cat meme in which people add the overlay text in Portuguese "indo ali" (which translates to "going there" in English) to indicate the blue cat is going somewhere. The meme has inspired Photoshop edits of the blue smurf cat wearing Brazilian football team jerseys, cheap cosplays and other ironic memes shared in early September 2023 on iFunny, TikTok and Twitter (X).

Origin

The Smurf Cat meme reached a Brazilian audience as the "indo ali" meme around June 2023.^[1] One of the earliest examples was posted by X^[2] user on June 20th, 2023, which is a thread of "indo ali" image macros with the overlay text "going there to listen to X," adding different K-pop group names. The post (shown below) amassed over 1,269 likes and 379 retweets in four months.

The "indo ali" meme peaked around early September 2023 when a series of TikTok edits featuring the We Live. We Love. We Lie sound (Allan Walker EDM song "The Spectre").

For example, one of the first viral videos on the platform was posted on September 7th, 2023, by TikToker^[3] @behedits posted the image macro paired with the overlay text "indo ali aomossar," which is a reference to the Brazilian meme Ao Mossar. The video (shown below, left) amassed roughly 1.4 million plays and 239,000 likes in a week. Tattoo artist @engel.ink^[4] posted a video on September 11th doing an "indo ali" tattoo (shown below, right), which garnered over 358,000 plays and 29,300 likes in four days.
