In Da Clerb, We All Fam is a memorable quote from a March 2016 episode of the Comedy Central show Broad City. The catchphrase originates from a scene in which the character Ilana Wexler (played by Ilana Glazer) waves to two women she doesn't know after crashing a party, saying, "In da clerb, we all fam," to her confused friend Abbi Abrams (Abbi Jacobson). After Abbi fails to compute the statement, Ilana says, "In the club, we are all family. Are you racist?" The catchphrase became a viral TikTok meme in October 2024, typically used in lip dub skits and other comedic content.

Origin

The episode "BB-NYC" aired as part of the third season of the Comedy Central show Broad City on March 30th, 2016. At one point in the episode, Abbi and Ilana crash a party in which Ilana waves excitedly at a group of girls across the dancefloor. When Abbi asks who they are, Ilana says she doesn't know them, but states, "In da clerb, we all fam." Ilana repeats herself when Abbi still appears confused, then snaps, "In the club, we are all family. Are you racist?"^[1]

On October 3rd, 2024, TikToker^[2] @saggiesplinters posted a video lip dubbing the scene and providing the sound used by subsequent TikTokers joining the trend. The video gathered over 11 million plays and 570,000 likes in a week.

On October 9th, 2024, pop singer Sabrina Carpenter posted a video lip dubbing the scene to her TikTok,^[4] joking about her older and younger fans interacting. The video gathered over 12 million plays and 2.5 million likes in five days.

The video of Sabrina Carpenter came to be used as an exploitable meme template with additional captions added, as seen in a video posted by TikToker @sillyhails2^[5] on October 11th, 2024. The post gathered over 9 million plays and 2 million likes in three days.

On October 11th, 2024, TikToker^[3] @erikatitus posted a video lip dubbing the phrase, "In da clerb, we all fam," and gathering over 20 million views and 3 million likes in three days.

The catchphrase spread to X^[6]^[7] / Twitter in early October 2024 as well, as seen in October 13th posts by X users @mothintoflames and @tinaturttle, each gathering over 300,000 and 250,000 likes, respectively, in one day.
