"In a World of Full of Kardashians" is an inspirational image macro series encouraging women to find their inner beauty through virtues of uniqueness, grace and courage by following the paths of female counter-culture icons, as opposed to glamour and sex appeal that are often attributed to the fame of Kim Kardashian and her extended family.

Origin

On September 11th, 2014, Twitter user @asyraf.ƶ uploaded the earliest known instance of the image macro series featuring a reference to Khadijah (R.A), the first wife of the Islamic prophet Muhammad (shown below).

Spread

On September 10th, 2015, Ines Klara Fashion posted an inspirational photo quote based on an image of Diana, the late Princess of Wales, via its official Instagram account, where it garnered 640 likes (shown below, left). On December 16th, 2015, Redditor Agent_Scully2084 submitted an image macro tribute to FBI Agent Dana Scully (portrayed by Gillian Anderson) from X-Files to the /r/XFiles subreddit, where it accrued 293 points (93% upvoted) before it was archived (shown below, right).

In the following months, several dozens of derivative image macros suggesting various female celebrities and pop culture icons as role models began circulating on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter.

Ariana Grande's Post

On December 15th, 2015, American pop singer Ariana Grande posted a satirical rendition of the "Be a Diana" image macro to her Instagram account, along with a caption explaining that the image is not aimed at the Kardashians but the meme itself. Despite the disclaimer, the post was misinterpreted by many others as a diss on Kim Kardashian, eventually prompting Grande to remove the post. Prior to its deletion, the image macro had garnered nearly 100,000 likes.

Anne Hathaway's Post

On May 23rd, 2016, American actress Anne Hathaway shared an image macro tribute to fellow actress Helena Bonham Carter via her Instagram account. Within the hour, Hathaway promptly removed the original post and followed up with a custom message post reading "Post removed for unintended shade thrown" in response to the similar backlash previously faced by Ariana Grande.
