Impressed Thor or Hulk Impresses Thor refers to a memorable scene from the 2019 Marvel superhero film Avengers: Endgame in which character Thor gives a thumbs-up to character Bruce Banner (Hulk) after he confirms that he feels okay using the Infinity Gauntlet. Online, a two-panel meme based on the scene has been used as an exploitable, primarily for object-labeling memes.

Origin

On April 26th, 2019, Marvel superhero film Avengers: Endgame premiered in the United States.[1] In one scene of the film, character Bruce Banner (Hulk), portrayed by Mark Ruffalo, puts on the Infiinty Gauntlet in order to use it. At one point during the scene, character Steve Rogers (Captain America) asks Hulk if he is feeling okay, which he confirms. Character Thor, portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, then reacts by making a thumbs-up gesture.

- Bruce, are you okay?! Talk to me, Banner!
- I'm okay… I'm okay.

On May 29th, 2019, Redditor dvorakcz posed a two-panel meme based on the scene to /r/thanosdidnothingwrong[2] and /r/memes[3] subreddits, gaining over 11,800 and 52,700 upvotes in eight days, respectively (shown below, left). On May 30th, Redditor JelliusMaximus used the format in a meme posted to /r/marvelmemes subreddit which gained over 14,900 upvotes in the same period (shown below, right).[4]



On the same day, Redditor T4ll0 posted a higher-resolution template to /r/MemeTemplatesOfficial subreddit,[5] with Redditor Scienence using the template in a meme posted to /r/dankmemes subreddit later that day (shown below, left).[6] In the following days, the format gained significant spread on Reddit and in Marvel Shieldposting Facebook group. For example, a meme posted by Redditor RedArmyFelines on May 31st to /r/dankmemes subreddit gained over 24,600 upvotes in seven days (shown below, right).[7]
