Immature High Schoolers is an image macro series featuring a photo of three adolescents laughing enthusiastically. The image macros are typically captioned with childish jokes involving bodily functions, sexuality or genitalia.
Origin
On April 26th, 2006, the French blog Choupine and Popuette[10] highlighted the photograph of the laughing teenagers (shown below, left) in an introductory post for the blog LeMarquis.[15] On April 2nd, 2012, Redditor TrentonJ submitted an image macro of the photo to the /r/AdviceAnimals[1] subreddit with the caption "He just said titties / comedy genius" (shown right) in a post titled "Immature High Schoolers." The post failed to reach the front page, accumulating only 238 up votes within 27 days.
Spread
On April 28th, 2012, TrentonJ submitted another image macro with the caption "He just said 69 / fucking comedy genius," which reached the front page receiving over 13,850 up votes within 48 hours.
The following day, compilations of the series were published to the men's interest blog Modern Primate[4] and the Tumblr blog Pleated Jeans.[8] Within 24 hours, the Tumblr post had accumulated over 35,000 notes. On April 30th, an Immature High Schoolers example with the caption "Makes fun of gay kids / puts a penis on everything" appeared on the Internet humor site Slacktory[5] (shown below, left). The same day, an instance with the caption "Gets on friends Facebook account / 'I'm Gay'" was posted on the image macro blog Casual Safety[9] (shown below, right). Also on April 30th, the Slacktory image macro was posted on the Cheezburger site Memebase.[12]
On May 1st, compilations of notable examples from the series were posted on the ranked list site Ranker[11] and the Internet news site UpRoxx.[13] The meme has continued to spread on Tumblr[14] under the tag "#immature high schoolers." As of September 6th, 2012, the Quickmeme[3] page has accumulated over 1900 submissions and 190 results for the search keywords "immature high schoolers" on Reddit.[7]
