I'm the Elon Musk of Bad Ideas is a memorable quote uttered by YouTuber Michael Reeves. Online, a screenshot of Reeves saying the quote has been used in a series of reaction image macros celebrating one's own recklessness.
Origin
On March 6th, 2019, YouTuber Michael Reeves published the video "A Robot That Picks Tomatoes Out of Your Salad." At the beginning of the video, Reeves points at the camera and says, "You haven't seen shit, I am the Elon Musk of bad ideas." The post received more than 5.3 million views in less than one year (shown below).
The earliest known usage of a screenshot of Reeves' saying the line was published on the /r/dankmemes subreddit[1] on May 28th, 2019 (shown below).
Spread
The following day, Redditor[2] AbsoluteSlime published a variation of the meme with the caption "When your English teacher mocks you for shouting out the wrong answer." The post received more than 6,800 points (98% upvoted) and 70 comments in less than one year (shown below, left).
On October 28th, Redditor[3] Yuvtl13 published a variation in the /r/dankmemes subreddit. The post received more than 21,000 points (95% upvoted) and 100 comments in less than four months (shown below, center).
Several months later, on January 27th, 2020, Redditor[4] Crazy_Kaycam posted a variation in the /r/me_irl subreddit.[4] The post received more than 5,700 points (95% upvoted) and 85 comments in less than two days (shown below, right).
