The trend is a parody of a video uploaded in mid-April 2024 by TikToker @vanessaleen and gained viral spread that month. The trend is typically set to the song "Genesis" by Grimes.

Origin

On April 17th, 2024, TikToker^[1] @vanessaleen posted a video filmed in a thrift store captioned "ok ok ok I'm crying do I need to wear this to Coachella?" then showing off a colorful shirt, garnering over 4.6 million views in five days (shown below). Some commenters expressed the opinion that the video had too much build-up for the reveal, with one of the top comments with over 30,000 likes reading, "5 hour shirt montage" and another with over 85,000 likes reading, "why was this video 30 minutes long."

The videos inspired parodies over the following days in which women use a variation on the same caption about shaking with excitement over finding something to wear to Coachella, with the punchline often being that the item they're considering wearing to Coachella is very revealing or not clothing at all.

For example, on April 19th, 2024, TikToker^[2] @slimnotshadyyy posted a video following the trend that garnered over 10 million views in three days (shown below, left). On April 20th, TikToker^[3] @gr8whiteshark posted a version of the trend in which she revealed the item to be a roll of duct tape, garnering over 3.4 million views in two days (shown below, right).
