The image was originally posted by an Old Row (traditional Southern fraternity) social media page on Twitter / X in 2016, with a Floridian woman making a 2017 post claiming the man to be her father, Duffield Matson. In 2025, alternate versions of the image with a variety of messages, typically leaning conservative, began making the rounds on Twitter / X and Instagram, some featuring recaptions. Another prominent variation of the meme reads, "We're not fuckin selling the land," in response to Senator Mike Lee's attempts to advocate for the sale of federally protected public land.

On July 21st, 2024, Twitter / X^[5] user @iansmithfitness made the earliest known viral post featuring the uncensored meme, gathering over 60,000 likes in a year on a post responding to an American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) tweet that read, "America must have Israel’s back."
