I'm MC Hammer! refers to a scene from the American sitcom Fresh Off the Boat in which the youngest brother in the family, Evan Huang (portrayed by actor Ian Chen), excitedly suggests, "I'm MC Hammer!" after his older brother asks, "Are you guys having a rap party?" The clip became the subject of brainrot edits on TikTok in late 2025. It was largely spread by TikTok's Niche Community, also known as NicheTok. The scene was originally used in video edit memes in mid-2023.

Origin

On July 16th, 2023, TikToker^[2] @___stratus___ posted an edit of a scene from season 1, episode 4 of Fresh Off The Boat titled "Success Perm" in which the character Evan Huang, portrayed by actor Ian Chen, says, "I'm MC Hammer!" after his brother asks, "Are you guys having a rap party?"^[1] Evan is then seen speedily stepping forward and backward. Over two years, the video edit meme received over 222,900 likes.

Also on July 16th, 2023, TikToker^[3] @paul_v.6 posted a similar edit that used the same scene, gaining over 139,300 likes in two years. It's unclear which creator shared their meme first on that day.

Two years later, on September 16th, 2025, TikToker^[4] @efilms10 shared a video edit meme with the I'm MC Hammer scene, gaining over 162,600 likes in three days.

Others shared I'm MC Hammer memes in the following days. For instance, on September 16th, TikToker^[5] @mrvlados24 posted a video that called out TikTok's Niche Community, alerting the group that I'm MC Hammer was the new "niche" meme that would prevent another "meme drought." Over three days, the video received over 4,400 likes.

On September 16th, 2025, TikToker^[6] @villeaqyuki shared a Kirk Franklin Eating an Apple meme, using the "How I feel being on X while my class is stuck on Y" phrasal template, referencing the I'm MC Hammer meme and the W Speed meme. Over three days, the video received over 35,900 likes.
