About

I'm Leaving For Vietnam refers to a copypasta on Twitter that is an offshoot of the That Seals The Deal. I'm No Longer A Fan copypasta. The copypasta reads, "My wife told me she voted for Joe Biden. As we speak we are getting divorced and I'm leaving for Vietnam. Papers signed everything is done… absolutely disgusted with the 2020 elections, what a disgrace." The prevalence of the copypasta under Donald Trump tweets led to suspicion that it was an automated bot message. After the multiple replies using the text were pointed out on Twitter, it became the subject of parody.

Origin

The copypasta was started by @WernerstarCEO on November 6th, 2020, initially using Mexico as the destination (shown below).[7] He then repeated the post in multiple replies, helping it spread on Twitter.

Spread

On November 9th, 2020. Twitter user @zmanbrianzane[1] noted a flood of posts of the copypasta, using Colombia as the destination country, gaining over 60 retweets and 580 likes (shown below).

A week later, on November 16th, 2020, Twitter user @AlisonAgosti[2] tweeted a compilation of suspected bots tweeting the copypasta with Vietnam as the destination country, gaining over 6,000 retweets and 51,000 likes (shown below). Twitter user @RosaLSmothers[3] tweeted examples as well that day, gaining over 2,400 retweets and 15,000 likes. This led to suspicion that the copypasta was an automated bot message.

The popularity of these tweets led to parodies of the copypasta. Examples include a tweet by @JonasBrier[4] which parodied the Dean Browning Gay Black Guy tweet (shown below, left). User @Everything_sox[5] parodied it using the Chicago White Sox's recent announcement that they'd hired Tony La Russa as their manager (shown below, right).

Twitter user @conspirator0[6] tweeted data analysis about the copypasta and concluded that the copypasta does not actually come from bots but is instead an offshoot of the That Seals The Deal copypasta. Their analysis shows that many of the accounts tweeting the copypasta had also posted "That seals the deal" variations related to UK football.
