Origin

On June 16th, 2016, season 4, episode 31 of The Amazing World of Gumball titled, "The Night," aired on American television.^[1] In one scene, the father Richard Watterson is dreaming that he's a piece of dough being kneaded into a bun. He sings a song called, "I'm a Bun," with the leading lyrics, "I'm a bun. I'm a bun. I'm a tasty, tasty bun. To be baked and kneaded. Oh, how fun."

The scene was first added to YouTube by YouTuber^[2] First Last on June 16th, the same day the episode aired. Over nine years, the video received over 6.4 million views and 50,000 likes (shown below).

On May 30th, 2019, YouTuber^[3] UNLIMITED WOLF GAMING shared a one-hour-long version of the "I'm a Bun" song, gaining over 166,900 views in six years.

On May 15th, 2021, Cartoon Network's TikTok^[4] page posted the original clip, receiving over 275,500 likes in four years. About a year later, on February 15th, 2022, TikToker^[5] @sr3ash reposted the original clip too, gaining over 107,100 likes in three years.

On May 27th, 2023, TikToker^[6] @ziggyzweets posted a meme about rapper Eminem using the "X If He Was Good" phrasal template, replacing the audio of the 8 Mile Rap Battle with "I'm a Bun." The video received over 185,400 likes in two years (shown below).

On March 1st, 2025, TikToker^[7] @sigmashitter_55 shared a similar meme, using the same "X If He Was Good" snowclone but instead concerning Travis Scott, gaining over 23,700 likes in 17 days (shown below).

In the following weeks, multiple "I'm a Bun" memes landed on TikTok. For instance, on March 9th, TikToker^[8] @the_spo1ngus posted a meme with the audio, showing men dancing with the lyrics added in vertically stacked text overlay, receiving over 129,000 likes in nine days (shown below).

On March 16th, 2025, TikToker^[9] @pinks8n posted a 99% Accuracy Reenactment of the song, using a cat keyboard, receiving over 326,500 likes in two days (shown below).
