I'm a 2020 President Candidate, also known as I'm a 2020 President Candidih or I'm a 2020 President Canadih, refers to a series of viral videos and video edit memes focused on a lyric from the Roddy Ricch song "The Box." The song was released in 2019 and started a TikTok trend in early 2020 of people lip dubbing the lyric. Use of the lyric resurfaced en masse in September 2025 when the clip of Roddy Ricch rapping the verse at a White House podium from the song's music video was used as an exploitable video element in brainrot edits on TikTok. The meme was pushed by members of the so-called Niche Community on the app. The misspelling of "candidate" as "candidih" was based on the slang term "dih."

Origin

On December 6th, 2019, rapper Roddy Ricch released the song "The Box" as the second track on his album Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial.^[1] The song's official audio was shared to YouTube^[2] on that day, gaining over 439.7 million views in six years.

On February 28th, 2020, Roddy Ricch shared the song's official music video on YouTube,^[3] gaining over 717.8 million views in five years. At the video's 2:20-minute mark, he raps, "I'm a 2020 president candidate," while standing at a White House podium.

In early 2020, several TikTokers shared videos of themselves lip-dubbing the lyric. The trend was largely popularized by TikToker^[4] Charli D'Amelio, who posted a video of herself on February 22nd, 2020, gaining over 4.8 million likes in five years.

She shared another TikTok^[5] video following the trend on February 26th, which gained over 8 million likes in five years.

Spread

In the following days and months, multiple TikTokers^[5][6] emulated Charli D'Amelio's videos and achieved viral results. By September 2025, the primary TikTok sound^[7] for "The Box" had amassed over 457,800 posts.

In the following years, TikTok editors used the Roddy Ricch verse for their content. For instance, on August 30th, 2023, TikToker^[8] @ejrix0 shared an edit using clips of U.S. Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump set to the verse, gaining over 110,500 likes in two years.

2025 Resurgence

On September 20th, 2025, TikToker^[9] @officialicevr posted a video that added CapCut filters and effects to the Roddy Ricch "I'm a 2020 President Candidate" clip and added text overlay that called it a "new meme." Over two days, the video received over 74,700 likes.

On September 21st, TikToker^[10] @nonchalantdreadead64 shared a similar video edit that instead read, "2020 president candidih" in text overlay, gaining over 291,900 likes in a day.
