"I'll Never Forgive the Japanese" is a memorable quote from anime series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency said by character Joseph Joestar during a run-in with a Japanese man at an airport. An image macro based on the quote has since been used as a reaction.

Origin

On April 5th, 2013, episode 26 "The Ascendant One" of anime series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure premiered in Japan.[1] In one scene of the episode, a Japanese person bumps his luggage into main protagonist Joseph Joestar. Upon learning the person's nationality, Joestar kicks his leg and comments that "he will never forgive the Japanese".

My only daughter has been married to a Japanese man for over 20 years now. Why did she get married on the other site of the world? My own grandson doesn't know my face! I will never forgive the Japanese!

On March 15th, 2015, Redditor Starman-Deluxe posted the first known screencap of the scene as a part of an image gallery for character Joseph Joestar to /r/respectthreads subreddit.[2] On April 17th, 2016, an unknown Redditor posted the image to /r/anime_irl subreddit, with the post gaining 263 upvotes in six months.[3]

On August 3rd, 2017, an anonymous 4chan user posted the first known edit of the image to /v/ board, referencing NeoGAF forum (shown below).[4]

On April 14th, 2018, Imgur user TheRealDeanWinchester reposted a captioned meme based on image macro made by an unknown author.[5] The post gained over 2,800 views and 60 points in one year (shown below).

In the following days, the image saw extensive use on Reddit. For example, on April 18th, 2018, Redditor pixl_0915 made a post which gained over 1,400 upvotes in six months (shown below, left).[6] On April 22nd, Redditor Otako1938 made a post which received over 2,500 upvotes in the same period (shown below, right).[7]

In the following year, the macro saw moderate use online, with notable posts appearing on Reddit in /r/animemes, [8] /r/HistoryMemes[9] and other subreddits, and on other online platforms.
