IKEA Couch Design refers to screenshots of unique sofa creations made with IKEA's website "Design your sofa" feature.[5]
Origin
On June 21st, 2019, Twitter user @rudermensch[1] tweeted, "thank you ikea for this extremely powerful $15,000 couch" with a screenshot of a large couch they created (shown below). The tweet accumulated over 49,100 likes and 8,100 retweets in a day.
Spread
On June 22nd, 2019, Twitter users began responding to @rudermensch with their own couch designs. Twitter user @MeButInPogForm[2] tweeted, "there are 2 types of people. those who walk to the center, and those who hop" with a screenshot of a long spiral couch (shown below, left). The tweet garnered over 900 retweets and 7,800 likes in a day. @FelixOrion[3] responded with a loss rendition (shown below, center). The tweet accumulated over 7,800 likes and 1,200 retweets in a day. Later that day, @beanbearrito[4] posted a screenshot from Minecraft saying, "I seriously thought this was a couch in minecraft' (shown below, right). The tweet gained over 3,400 likes and 120 retweets in a day.
