On December 27th, 2024, X[1] user @StevenPulteFam made a series of posts in which they advertised buying a Rolex watch as a great investment for a young man in their 20s, writing that it's worth going into debt to get one. The opening post of the thread (shown below) received over 17.5 million views, 4,900 reposts and 14,000 likes in two days.

In the follow-up post,[2] @StevenPulteFam emphasized that "this is not satire" and that "Having a nice watch communicates status to women and business relationships". In another post,[3] @StevenPulteFam posted a photograph of himself together with his fiancée, writing, "This girl saw my Rolex gmt master II (pictured) and now we’re getting married" (post shown below).

Spread

Following the viral spread of the thread on X, the post became a subject of parodies in which users suggested various extravagant and expensive items and services for purchase. For example, on December 28th, 2024, X[4] user @HighyieldHarry advised buying bottle service every weekend in a post that received over 400 reposts and 8,800 likes in one day (shown below).

Later on December 28th, X[5] user @uberstuber made a parody post in which they suggested purchasing a tungsten cube. The post (shown below) received over 3,200 reposts and 48,000 likes in one day.

The parody format saw viral spread on X / Twitter in late December 2024.

If You're 20-30 and Your Main Circle Isn't Discussing refers to a series of memes that parody a popular hustle culture image macro about elevating one's social circle. In June 2020, the original post was parodied on Twitter, while image macros posted by various self-motivation accounts in the following months found use as source material for memes.
